...Windows Vista and Windows 7 Instructions

For Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, follow the instructions below to set up a DHCP Ethernet connection.

Please pay special attention to these important notes:

  • You must log on to your computer with an account that has computer administrator privileges in order to complete these instructions.
  • You may need your Windows CD to complete these instructions.

 

 
  To set up a DHCP Ethernet connection in Windows Vista or Windows 7  
 


Check to see if your computer is already configured to connect to the Internet. If it is already configured, you do not need to complete the following steps.

Configure your TCP/IP to obtain the IP address and DNS server address automatically and to use the NetBIOS setting from the DHCP server:

    1. Click the "Start" button
    2. Select "Control Panel"
    3. Click the "Network and Internet" link
    4. Click the "Network and Sharing Center" link
    5. View your "Network Connections":
      In Windows Vista, click the "Manage Network Connections" link
      In Windows 7, click the "Change Adapter Settings" link

    6. Right-click your "Local Area Connection"
    7. From the drop-down list, select "Properties"
      Note: In Windows Vista, click the "Continue" button
    8. Select "Internet Protocol Version 4" (TCP/IPv4)
    9. Click the "Properties" button
    10. Select the "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" option
    11. Select the "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically" option
    12. Click the "Advanced..." button
    13. Select the "WINS" tab
    14. Select the "Default: Use NetBIOS Setting" from the DHCP Server option
    15. Click "OK"
    16. Click "OK" a second time
    17. Click the "Close" button
    18. Restart your computer.
